To most people, socks are a pretty small thing. They get up each morning and, after maybe spending a couple of minutes deciding on the color or texture, slide them on... giving no more thought to them the rest of the day.

But there is a segment of the population to which socks are much more important: the homeless. During the winter socks do more than just keep their feet more comfortable within a pair of shoes. They provide a layer of insulation over the feet and toes keeping the feet warmer and helping prevent frostbite. Socks are also used as makeshift gloves or purses/totes, depending on the need at the time.

The Happy Feet Sock Ministry provides socks to the homeless. Balling each pair up with a piece of scripture tucked inside, volunteers usually hand out these socks at events hosted by other Local Out-Team ministries. If is often noteworthy the amount of appreciation the homeless have for such a simple item.
