12/06/2008: "Faith"
“Are you her mom?” The little girl asked the volunteer server from Community Bible Church while pointing to the middle-aged server filling plates with food at the other end of the line.
“Why, yes, I am”, replied the mother. “Look what she gave me”, the little girl beamed while reaching up to tug the necklace hanging around her neck. The mother was astonished! That was her daughter's favorite necklace. The necklace had a charm which simply read “Faith”. She could hardly believe her daughter would give it to some little girl she had never met before!
Puzzled, the mom asked the little girl why her daughter had given her the necklace. The little girl replied. “You see, I was leaning against the wall crying and she came up and talked to me.”
“Your daughter told me that this necklace gave her faith, and by giving it to me she hoped it would bring the same faith to me. So, she took it off and gave it to me.”
This one act of kindness brightened that child's day and may have a lasting impact on her entire future. One woman giving up something she cherished so dearly to comfort another human being she had never met before and would likely never meet again.
At the Maximum Impact / Grace Community Fellowship Church Thanksgiving Dinner with the Community there were a lot of things being given away that day. Food, clothes, hygiene kits, flu shots, and hair cuts to name a few. But, all of the stuff was not the real gifts. You see, like the cherished necklace, they were only symbols.
Community Bible Church turned out strong with plenty of volunteers for the event. With them they brought food, clothes and crafts for the children. But the most important thing they brought with them was the love of Christ
Not every volunteer was able to have personal interaction with the guests. There was too many jobs which needed to be done. But, by their presence they opened the door of opportunity for others to touch someone's heart.
There were many instances of hearts being touched that day. A number of people accepted Christ as their savior and more rededicated their lives to the Lord. Those donating goods and/or volunteering their time played a vital role in these successes, just as did one woman who shared her faith with a little girl.
