12/17/2008: "Hot Dogs and the Faith of Job"

Her name was Laquida. With the help of the Lord, eighteen years ago she overcame an addiction to cocaine. But, this success did not lead to a happy, easy life. It has been quite the opposite. Most recently, she lost her job and then her apartment. At one time she suffered what might be the greatest agony a woman can endure: rape.

With all of her troubles, Laquida's faith in the Lord Jesus Christ has never subsided. Today, Laquida now has a new job and she is living at the Woods Motel until she is back on her feet. She wanted everyone to know her story. It is an inspiration to us all. You see, Laquida has the faith of Job, who suffered great loss and torment but never lost his faith.

On November 15th, ten small group members plus three invited guests and a dog swept upon the40 Days Small Group Cookout Volunteers Woods Motel with a trailer and vehicles bearing food, clothing, Clayton County resource information, Community Bible Church information, and most importantly the love of Christ. Laquida was a surprise leader at the event. Time and time again she brought residents to the group for food and prayer.

Over 60 people were fed and many went "shopping" at the clothes tables.  Each one was told of the love Christ has for them. A large number of the guests asked for prayer. Members of the willing small group prayed for them right then and there.

According to Pastor Brooks Everett, "It was a great day. We went prepared to be a blessing to others and came away blessed ourselves."

More pictures of this and other Small Group projects can be viewed in our Picture Gallery.
