04/11/2009: "Easter Egg Stuffing Fellowship"
It was a last minute whim, but it worked out very well. One of our team members had purchased 500 plastic easter eggs and assorted candy. Another team member volunteered to purchase an additional 500 eggs and candy and suggested that we get together to stuff them. Then it was suggested that we stuff them at the church and invite others to join in. The result: an Easter egg stuffing party!
It wasn't a big event. We grabbed a few chips, sandwich supplies, soft drinks and whipped up some cheese dip. We met in the Family Room at the church and stuffed our bellies as well over 1,100 Easter eggs (some say as high as 1,500).
A little bit of testimony was shared before the event and a whole lot of fellowshipping went on as we all pitched in to do our part in making a contribution to the Community Bible Church Eggstravaganza.
It was a small group in the family room that night. Most of the participants attend the church's Celebrate Recovery program and most had never participated in an Out-Team event before. So, it was a time for us all to get to know one another better fellowship in the name of Christ while also serving in His name.
Did this event do anything but provide a few Easter eggs for the Easter Eggstravaganza? I think so. We strengthened relationships and motived Christians to step outside their comfort zones and share the love of Christ as most attendees of this event also served at Pastor Butch's Community H.U.G. Cookout the next day.
We don't have our game plan worked out yet (your ideas are welcome), but we hope to hold a similar event each month providing Christians a place to serve while enjoying the fellowship of other Christians.
