11/30/2010: "Free Bird"

Based on a report from Ron Driver, Captain of the Jailhouse HUG Team.

“I was having a very busy day at work”, Ron said. (It was the day after Thanksgiving). “My cell phone rang but I was busy at the moment and did not answer. Several minutes later it rang again and this time I answered.”

He had been released from jail. “It was Bob (fake name), one of the men I have been ministering to down at the Henry County Jail. He said 'Ron, you told me to call when I got out of jail, so I am doing what you told me to do.' I had told the men to call me as they get released from jail, that I would get them hooked up with the Celebrate Recovery program at Community Bible Church or another church nearer where they they lived. Bob was out of jail and doing exactly what I had asked him to do. But, I was at work and had other plans this evening which I could not cancel!”

“Bob did not need to be alone tonight. The Celebrate Recovery program at Rock Springs Baptist Church in Morrow was meeting but I could not be there with him. Bob said 'That's ok. All I will need is a ride”, so I adjusted my plans a little to make sure Bob made it to Celebrate Recovery and back home.” This coming week Bob will also be attending Celebrate Recovery at Community Bible Church.

Wow, Ron gave a guy a ride to a Celebrate Recovery service and back home again, and that is a big deal? It is a very big deal.

The Jailhouse HUG Team has been serving the Henry County Jail only a few weeks now. The ministry runs a mini-Celebrate Recovery service inside the jail and encourages the men to continue with their recovery when they are released, offering to help them if they are willing to make the effort. Bob is the first evidence of the influence the ministry is having on the lives of the men inside. This first step taken by Bob upon release is what the ministry is all about, because without it their recovery will likely stop.

Bob serves as proof that this ministry is working. We ask that you keep Bob, Ron and this ministry in your prayers. If you ever want to make a real difference in the lives of men, try serving with the Jailhouse HUG Team. Not only will you help these men but you will also do a great service for society.
